Worku Modes: Classic and Freestyle
As Worku has grown, players have discovered different pleasures in the creative process. Some enjoy the challenge of honoring both the puzzle words and the exact path taken to solve the puzzle. Others prefer greater flexibility in arranging those same words to serve the poem. To support both approaches, Worku now offers two official modes of play.
Classic Worku
Use all constraint words in the poem in the exact order they were guessed during play. This preserves the sequence of the solve and adds an additional layer of creative constraint.
Freestyle Worku
Use all constraint words from the solve, but they may appear anywhere in the poem. This allows greater flexibility in crafting imagery, narrative, and emotional flow while still honoring the puzzle’s vocabulary.
Both modes are equally valid forms of Worku. The choice simply reflects whether the poet wishes to preserve the story of the solve or prioritize complete freedom in shaping the poem.
Players are encouraged to experiment. You may submit as many poems as you like from a single puzzle, including both Classic and Freestyle versions. The goal of Worku is not to find the “right” poem, but to cultivate creativity, playfulness, and the ongoing practice of the poetic craft.
