SCOOT gave this group a strong sense of departure, but the reasons for leaving were very different: awkwardness, danger, frustration, isolation, fear, or simply the arrival of morning.
Lari’s poem is especially effective because it gives SCOOT a whole night to grow into. The sneaking, swimming, and shooting stars create a vivid little adventure, and then dawn supplies the natural pressure that makes the final word feel inevitable rather than imposed. Diana gets a quieter version of the same effect in the deadened barroom, while Mark repeatedly uses SCOOT as a response to threat and B-lu turns it into movement that cannot happen alone.
The strongest poems made SCOOT feel earned by what came before it. The word works best when it is not just motion, but consequence.
