MOCHA turned this round into a showcase for zappai. The constraints were strange enough that sound, wordplay, and sheer ingenuity often mattered as much as image. Lari gets especially clever with (COMMA) doing double duty as both constraint and punctuation, while Mark turns MACHO and MOCHA into a neat little deflation of masculine posturing. Debbie goes happily surreal, letting MATZO, MONAD, MOMMA, and MOCHA coexist simply because the poem gives them enough comic confidence to do so.
This was another round where coherence itself became part of the accomplishment. With constraint sets this unruly, the strongest poems didn’t necessarily make the words seem ordinary—they gave the weirdness enough internal logic that it felt intentional.
