TRILL gave this group an interesting split between actual sound and figurative voice. Diana turns it into the fractured sound of boardroom nerves, auntie jj arrives at a warbler’s trill through close attention to the natural world, and B-lu uses the remembered song of a chickadee to carry loss. Jonesy adds gulls to a lively beach scene, while Lari and Mark push TRILL toward tone, confidence, and individual expression.

What worked best was when the sound had something specific to emerge from—a bird, anxiety, a voice, a physical moment. TRILL is already a vivid word; the stronger poems gave us a reason to hear it.

Diana Marie 3/6
First BOARD room jitters
Nerves RIVET me immobile
Incoherent TRILL…

Robo 6/6
Her CRUSH will BREAK me
She lay DOWN the GRIFT TRIPY
Together we TRILL

Jonesy 4/6
A day at the BEACH.
Scruffy’s SNOUT in for the dig.
WITTY as gulls TRILL.

auntie jj 3/6
CARVE time with nature
unearth ROLLY polly bugs
discern warbler’s TRILL

B-lu 3/6
ADIEU chickadee
Nothing SOILS your memory
Your TRILL will linger

Mark 4/6
FORGE ahead, DRINK in
TRIAL as your turn to play
TRILL to your own beat

Lari 4/6
TREAT Brownie TROOP well
Don’t TRICK them and keep a TRILL
In your loving voice.

Mick 4/6
a carnal LOGIC,
lithe INTEL, a TIDAL surge —
the soft TRILL of her
