SLOOP pulled this round toward mishap, motion, and a lot of playful sound. Debbie turns a few bad choices into instant wreckage, auntie jj gives us a flashy boat and a very unflashy sailor, and Lari leans hard into the STOOP / SCOOP / SWOOP / SLOOP music for a comic little social scene.
A few poems also found ways to make the boat more than scenery. Mark uses the sloop as pure forward motion against ice, while Mick’s revised ending — “Her boat? SLOOP John B!” — turns a character sketch into a pop-culture wink without losing the constraint. Across the group, the stronger pieces either gave SLOOP a clear narrative role or let its sound become part of the poem’s energy.
