Four players, 45 poems, and a whole lot of finger-snapping applause! Our third Worku Game Night at the Crooked Goat in Petaluma was a fun and remarkably productive evening.
We put the board game through its paces, and I’m beginning to think Worku is less a game than an experience. People gathering around a table, wrestling with the challenge of taking random words and writing little poems. The appreciation of what everyone comes up with seems to be the game, well that and the tater tots 😂 That’s not a bad thing!
One of the pleasures is seeing how differently people use the same constraints. Given the constraint words of round 4 SPACE, KNOCK, REACH, and GROUP, Diana Marie came up with:
locked up in this SPACE
KNOCK and pound, REACH for the latch —
GROUP therapy starts …
While I went in another direction:
give SPACE to the KNOCK
REACH the oak door, open wide —
GROUP surrounds pizza
Diana was first to reach the Lotus, but everyone joined in the final Lotus challenge. Debbie Wilson gave us a little Tintin adventure with our single constraint word SNOWY:
SNOWY the dog barks
an avalanche has begun
Tintin not happy
auntie jj gave us an elegant haiku to finish off the Lotus round:
flakes fall silently
I watch the SNOWY show drift
sleep beckons me now
We finished with poems, laughter, and plenty of appreciation. No single winner, but 45 poems to show for the evening!
To see all the poems we did, check out October 16th calendar on the archives page.
Next Game Night: Monday, November 2, at 6:30 PM, at the Crooked Goat in Petaluma.
The Golden Gate Game Makers group will be joining us! They’re interested in seeing the Worku board game in action, so we’ll have another opportunity to play, experiment, and see where this thing goes.
If you’re around, come on by!
worku every day!
