BUMPY sent this group in a lot of directions: literal rough rides, social instability, fraud, surreal painting, and full-on circus absurdity. Mark gives us the most physical version, with dust, a buggy lift, and the promise of a jolting trip, while Diana turns BUMPY into the shape of a public fall. Lari gets comic mileage from LUMPY pockets on a train, and Mick’s circus piece lets the weirdness become the whole point.
The stronger poems made BUMPY do more than sit at the end as an adjective. It became motion, consequence, atmosphere, or instability. That gave the round a good mix of literal bumps and figurative ones, with enough variety that the final word never felt repetitive.
