Today’s Worku takes on GEODE, a gift of a word in one sense and a trap in another. It brings strong imagery with it, but it can also tempt the poem to simply “drop in a cool rock” at the end. The stronger entries make the geode do more. Debbie hides one beneath slime-covered river stones, letting the value remain unseen; Diana uses the cracked shell as an image of mood opening; Mick turns the geode into a final metaphor for the exposed stillness of a dead hand. That’s the key with a vivid constraint word: don’t just show it—make it change what the poem means.
